Alistair’s first job was in 1979 on a Government job creation programme. After that he worked in the lower reaches of local government and the upper reaches of the voluntary sector before becoming Funding Controller of the Wise Group in 1988. In 1998 he became Chief Executive of Community Enterprise in Strathclyde. From 2005 – 14 he was a Director at the consultancy Rocket Science leading on financial inclusion, social enterprise, employability and urban regeneration. In 2014 he set up Alistair Grimes Consulting.
Alistair has been an expert adviser to the European Commission, chair of the Scottish Credit Union Partnership, chair of the Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum, on the Board of Communities Scotland and a member of the McFadden Commission to reform charity law in Scotland. For seven years he was on the BIG Lottery Committee for Scotland. He has been chair of the Yorkshire based Key Fund and chair of Responsible Finance, the trade body for ‘not for profit’ lenders in the UK. He is currently a Trustee of Camphill Blair Drummond and a Board member of WEvolution, Freedom Bakery and SURF.
Alistair has degrees in History and Politics from St Andrews and Durham Universities and a PhD and MBA from Edinburgh University.Back to meet the board
